In the empty pool room, the party is still puzzling over what exactly they should try to identify before facing the living statues. Ozzy: Does anyone have the magic detecting spell memorized? I don't. If we find out which of these items are magical, then maybe we would have a better idea of what to identify. Tasencia: (confidently) Rao will grant me the power. Ozzy: We know that this sword is obviously magical in some way, at least. Also, the wand and that ring are probably magical. As for the other stuff, well we need that magic detect spell. Tasencia: Collect your items and we shall find out. Eagle: Do any of our mages have the ability to scan the room for magic? I think this would be very useful in detecting what could be triggering the statues to animate. Ozzy: Not me. I've learned a different spell for today. Greythur: I can call upon Fharlanghn to give me such sight, and Rao can give Tas the same ability. Tasencia: Well, whoever is to cast the detect magic spell, save it until moments before we go in so that we will have enough time to be able to use this cloth, too, instead of having to cast the spell twice. Eagle: I can't remember if this ring was magical, but you can check it out again, Tas. Ozzy: Yes Eag, that ring is magical and somehow linked with that sword o' yours. Eagle: I wonder if my ring will somehow get us past these golems. I mean, they didn't attack you, Ajax, until I left room. Maybe this ring protects the wearer from harm? Tasencia: Alright, I will look at your ring, and the wand. What else? Autumn: Well, I already know my dagger is magical so I won't waste your time. I just want to know what happened to it. That's the only item I have. Ozzy: Is it missing or something? Ajax: (impatiently) It's rusted, you blind oaf! Autumn: (sadly) Actually, it's more than that. There used to be an emerald in the hilt, but it seems to have disappeared. Ozzy: (looking slightly accusingly at the halflings) Oh yeah? When did this disappearance happen, pray-tell...? Ajax: (shocked) I'm shocked. What kind of Tangleburr would I be if I stole from a lady? Eagle: (opens his mouth) Ajax: (to Eagle) Shut up. Autumn: No, this started happening before I even met you. It didn't just disappear.... Well, I know this doesn't make sense, but I could've sworn the emerald actually _shrank_ away into nothing. Alenniel: (raises his eyebrows in curiosity) Tasencia: Shrank? Greythur: That _is_ odd. Rimli: (quite obviously bored by all the talk and eager to fight the statues, but consoles himself with the thought that statues generally don't wander off) Ozzy: Hmm... well, you already know the dagger is magic, so all we have to worry about is whether or not to use the cloth on it. Tasencia: The detect magic spell will help us decide what to identify, though. If I cast it now, it will last for approximately ten minutes. Rimli: An' then-- if'n I've been 'earin' ye right-- we figh' th' beasties? Tasencia: Precisely. I'll cast the spell, then, after we find out what's magic, we'll try to quickly identify a few items, scan the statues, tie them up, and open the doors. If we can unlock them, that is. Eagle: "If"?! Ajax: (to Eagle) After all we've done for them. The party makes a tidy pile of everything you think might be magical: the wand, Eagle's ring, Autumn's dagger (just to make sure), the rock on the chain necklace, the small gem, the rusty iron ball, and the bag (at Rimli's insistence). Ozzy: (tosses in a dirty feather, a couple of jars, some rusty manacles, and several silver needles as well) Alenniel: (looks at him oddly) Ozzy: Hey, you never know. Tasencia: (already spellcasting, holy symbol in hand) Tasencia finds that the wand (strong), ring (moderate), dagger (faint), rock (moderate), iron ball (moderate), and bag (moderate) are magical. Tasencia: Quickly now, before my spell expires-- what do we wish to identify?
